  • Below are the dates for our up coming Shop Rides, our Wednesday afternoon rides are generally around 20km in length and our Sunday rides usually go for around 3 to 4 hours depending on the skill level of the group, the conditions on the day and the ride chosen.
  • If a ride is to be cancelled notification will be posted on the website and sent out to our ride list subscribers. Regulars can be notified by SMS if required.
  • The pace of our rides is dictated by the pace of the slowest rider, we won't leave you behind and we always have an experienced sweeper at the tail of the pack. The experienced riders will often ride ahead but will wait for the pack to catch up at regular intervals.
  • A mountain bike in good working order is required for our MTB rides. Helmets are required on all rides.
  • Lights are required for Wednesday afternoon rides in winter.
  • Please bring a spare tube, plenty of water and snacks if required. Backpacks are recommended for our MTB rides.

Staples Lookout

Where: Brisbane Water National Park is set in over 12,000 ha of rugged sandstone country. Bordering the Hawkesbury River the park provides magnificent views of the river, Brisbane Water and Broken Bay. Well known for its fabulous wildflower displays from late winter to early spring the park supports a diverse range of native animals. There are also lots of caves and waterfalls to explore if you are prepared to get off the bike and hike or wander along the sandstone creek beds.  This area is very popular with cyclists & bush walkers and is the location of most of our Wednesday Shop Rides.  We meet at the Staples Lookout car park on Woy Woy Road, from the car park we cross the road to the trail head for a selection of fire trails and some single trail riding.

Wildlife: This area has lots of Auatralian wildlife, some of the species we regularly see are wallabies, echidna, black cockatoos, lace monitors (tree goanna's), water dragons, diamond pythons, red bellied black snakes, frogs, lyrebirds and Yabbies can be seen down at the ponds. Spotted Quolls and Koala's are also know to inhabit this area.

History: This sandstone country has an extensive array of Aboriginal engraving sites and other signs of occupation. Several hundred Aboriginal rock engraving sites are known to exist throughout the park. The well known Bulgandry site is just a short walk from Woy Woy Road. Brisbane Water National Park is one of the oldest national parks in NSW. The initial dedication was made in 1959 as a Reserve for Public Recreation.

Rides: We have a selection of rides available in this area ranging from beginner to intermediate, they are;

  1. Rocky Ponds is a 25km out and return trip, we have 2 desitinations in this area, both offer scenic views, fresh running water, caves, waterfalls and water holes. (generally 2+ hours). Elevation Gain 438M - Rated Intermediate.
  2. Dillon's Farm is a 16.8km out and return ride (generally 1.5+ hours). This destination offers a nice waterhole to take a dip in the summer months. Elevation gain 345m - Rated Beginner/Intermediate.
  3. Thomos Loop is a 12.5km fire trail ride (generally 1+ hour) and is a good trail for those new to mountain biking offering an opt out point near half way (tunnel track leads back to the speed camera on Woy Woy Road). Elevation gain 240m - Rated Beginner.
  4. Mt Wondabyne ride is approximately 15km. This ride has a few decent climbs and offers outstanding views over Brisbane Water and back towards the Hawkesbury River (generally 1.5+ hours). Elevation Gain 336m - Rated Beginner/Intermediate.
  5. The Pearl Beach ride is a 40km trip (generally 4+ hours). This is our longest BWNP ride, we start at Staples Lookout and ride up to the moon rocks area for a break to admire the views and then towards the top of Patonga ridge. From there we take the ride down to Pearl Beach and around to Umina before a few road k's back to the Woy Woy tip hill and through the bush back to Staples Lookout. Elevation gain 515m -  Rated Intermediate.
  6. Kariong ride is approximately 15km (generally 1.5+ hours). Rated Beginner/Intermediate.
  7. Woy Woy Water Tank. Rated Intermediate.

What to bring: A mountain bike in good working order, plenty of water, some snacks/food and a spare tube. There is generally little or no mobile phone reception in some parts of this area.

Where: Dubbo Gully is situated between Mangrove Mountain and Wisemans Ferry in the Dharug National Park. We meet at the Mangrove Mountain shops which is on the corner of Wisemans Ferry Road and Waratah Road at 8.30am. View Map of where we meet From the meeting point we drive approximately 2km down to Dubbo Gully Road and park in the dirt car park just before the NPWS locked gate.  This area is pretty hilly with many long climbs, be warned that the climb back to the car park continues for a couple of kilometres and is not really suited to beginners, most of the trails in the area are fire trails with a good mixture of technical sections for the experienced and downhill runs for the thrill seekers.

Dharug National Park

Wildlife: This area has lots of Auatralian wildlife, some of the species you might see are wallabies, echidna, black cockatoos, gang gang cockatoos, lace monitors (tree goanna's), diamond pythons, red bellied black snakes, frogs, feral goats and koalas have been spotted in the trees beside the road. There are also lots of wombat holes throughout the area.

History: This area is rich in Australian history, the Old Great North Road was surveyed in 1825 and is being nominated for World Heritage Listing to have the site protected and conserved. This part of the Old Great North Road in Dharug National Park is one of four sites in New South Wales included in the nomination, more information can be found here.

Rides: We have 3 intermediate to advanced shop rides to choose from in this area depending on the conditions, skill level of the group and time available, they are;

  1. A 25km loop which starts at the car park and continues 2k down the hill into the valley, across the bridge and follows the trail past the pioneer cemetery & along Mangrove Creek for several k's before turning right at Simpsons Track for the climb up to Ten Mile Hollow where we usually take a short break. From there we continue north along the Old Great North Road to Clares Bridge (Clares Bridge is the second oldest bridge in mainland Australia) and continue until we hit the junction at Donny's Track for a quick descent back down to Dubbo Gully Road and then grind back up the hill to the starting point. Generally this is a 2-3 hour ride.
  2. A 40-50km loop which is the same as ride 1 except we continue north along the Old Great North Road (along part of the Dirt Works 100 course) towards Yango National Park before doubling back to Donny's Track and back to the starting point. Generally this is a 4+ hour ride. Total elevation gain 780 meters, minimum elevation 6 meters, maximum elevation 263 meters.
  3. A 60+km Loop which follows ride 1 until we reach Ten Mile Hollow and then continues west along the Old Great North Road until the historical descent down Devine's Hill to Wisemans Ferry Road (for a break), then we follow the road south along the Lower Hawksbury until we reach the Western Commission Track. From there we ride back up to the ridge top (this is a long nasty climb) and back to the Old Great North Road at Ten Mile Hollow. From there we head the final 15km back the way we came to our starting point. Generally this is a 5+ hour ride. Total elevation gain 1,400 meters, minimum elevation 6 meters, maximum elevation 273 meters.

What to bring: A mountain bike in good working order, plenty of water, some snacks/food and a spare tube. There is generally little or no mobile phone reception in this area.

The trails out at Ourimbah State Forest are in great shape, "the graveyard" and "the meadows" have been opened up bringing the current distance of 1 lap to around 11km. Please note that people using the XC track should no longer park in the bottom car park, the trail head starts 100 or so meters up the road and is fully signposted.

Nine people turned up to our last Wybung Head ride (one of Mels local trails) which is a 20km out and return trip on what is mostly single trail, it was an easy paced ride which started out in the fog and ended at the headland where we had a nice break before heading back along the same route. Click Here to discuss this ride.

The ride can also be viewed in Google Earth (you must have it installed on your computer) by saving this file (Click Here), you will then need to run the file (wybungdata.exe, a self extracting archive) by clicking on it which will create a directory containing the ride files which you can then open and view in google earth.
