Last Saturday saw the 2nd running of the Wollombi Wild ride take place with three distance categories; 60km, 30km and 15km. The weather in the days leading up to the the event was wet and windy but thankfully the rain stopped a couple of hours before the 60km start, this could have put a few people off but there was still a bigger field than in 2009.

The 60km course was a large figure 8 and was a mostly smooth fire trail with a run through the Undercliff Winery and then plenty of climbing and lots of descending, twice down Finchley Track the fastest part of the course where I got My 29er to 80kph (the fastest I've been on an mtb) and then 10k of dirt road back to the Tavern. The course was very well marked out with plenty of Laguna Bush Fire Brigade Volunteer marshals lining the way with radio backup provided by CREST and first aid support from the good people at St John.

I had a ball at Wollombi, this was a well run event put on by H Events and supported the Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance with a very laid back atmosphere on the grounds of the Wollombi Tavern, everybody I spoke to said they had a great day and a lot of coasties did exceptionally well (congrats everybody). If you want to do a no pressure event this is the one, nothing technical, plenty of room for no pressure overtaking and there is a choice of 15km, 30km or 60km course in a very pretty part of NSW with a party and live music at the end and to top it off we all got a pretty good looking Wollombi Wild Ride t-shirt  :)  Thanks to everybody who made this event happen! The date for next years Wild Ride is the 3rd of September 2011, pencil it in to your calendar.

Results are on the Wollombi Wild Ride website. I'll ad a few more pictures later tonight :)

The Gong Ride is a one of a kind fundraising event. You can pedal 90km from Sydney to Wollongong on any day of the year but it’s only on the first Sunday of November that you’ll experience the camaraderie, fellowship, unity, safety, scenery and sense of achievement for pedalling in support of people living with MS. But be quick because numbers have been capped so places are limited! To maintain the safety and enjoyment of participants, local residents and other road users and in consultation with the NSW Police and the RTA, the event will be capped at 10,000. Each rider in the Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride is dedicated and committed to fundraising a minimum of $250. We hope to see you on November 7! Happy pedalling from the MS Events Team!

This is my Adventure race story! - Coralea and I decided to do an adventure race and there was going to be one on the coast so we booked our spot for the Sunday, then realized that we needed to train – or at least know how to use a compass for the day! So we booked a training day with Kathmandu Adventure !

Coralea and I started with a training day down at Narrabeen to hone our skills at using a compass (something I have never done before!)

The day started with mapping – Yipee, then bike riding and canoeing through Narabeen lake for the rest of the afternoon, we had a great day, met lots of people and snuck in a little ride before we went home !

Now we are all ready for the big day. We got up early and headed for the Glenworth Valley only 30mins from Erina brilliant as we were told to get there early and be PREPARED! So we did, and it was

Freezing!

We were one of the first there! BRRRRRR! So we parked next to a beautiful creek.

Once rego was open Coralea started mapping! And then soon the sun started to appear!

there was time for a hot choky and then it was time for Game on!

Well we had a Fantastic Day, there was running, riding, swimming and canoeing! What more could a girl ask for! ohh yeah MUD, MUD and more MUD! Nevertheless We made it! We did it in 5.41hrs we had a blast! We came 12th in the Female division and 132 overall! We really did have and Adventure!

Thanks for Supporting Us and The Cancer Council PDF Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Bull

Dear Friends,

Thankyou all so much for your generous donations to the NSW Cancer Council on behalf of our team.  Rebecca, Scott, David and I are extremely proud to have been able to generate awareness for this organisation and raise around $6000 for cancer research, promotion and prevention strategies.

We all had a fantastic, gruelling and sometimes painful experience training for and completing the Dirtworks race.  Whilst it was tough on the trail, the notion that we were doing something really worthwhile, made the trek all the more enjoyable and rewarding.

On behalf of Team NobMob/Erina Bikeworx and the Cancer Council, I'd like to thank you all once again for your contributions and also your kind words of support.  We really appreciate your efforts to get behind this important cause.

Kind regards
Andrew Bull

P.S.  I was hoping to post everyone some pictures of us in the race, but the event photgraphy was really poor.  If you can use your imagination, think of 4 grimacing, dusty faces of riders who might actually be enjoying themselves whilst bouncing around a rocky mountain bike trail for several hours, with the occasional cramp, mechanical problem and river crossing (swim) thrown in for good measure.
